Paddle on a Lake or River<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There are a huge number of options to go out on the water in Peterborough. For instance, the Kawartha Lakes have 10 signature routes with varying difficulty levels. There\u2019s also Eels Creek, which is known for being a great canoe spot \u2014 heading one hour upstream will bring you to High Falls, an impressive waterfall just outside the park. Finally, you could go to Peterborough Lift Lock on the Trent\u2013Severn Canal. It\u2019s the highest hydraulic lift lock in the world, raising boats almost 20 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Discover History<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Peterborough has a couple living history museums. The first is Kawartha Settlers\u2019 Village, where you can experience how life was for the pioneers. It features more than 20 historic homes and buildings along with artifacts from the 19th to early 20th century. To really bring history alive, it\u2019s worth taking an audio tour. A second option is Lang Pioneer Village Museum, which has more than 30 restored buildings, many from townships in the area. As you tour the place, you\u2019ll see interpreters acting out what it was like to live as a settler in the 1800s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Go to the Zoo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Riverview Park and Zoo has a wide array of animals from all over the world, ranging from squirrel monkeys and servals to dwarf crocodiles and capybaras. The zoo is committed to conservation efforts, with a strong emphasis on animal welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Meet Some Turtles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n For more animals, head to the Ontario Turtle Conservation Centre. The centre protects native turtles and their habitats through field work, research, and rehabilitation of injured turtles. If you want to get involved this summer, volunteer to be a turtle taxi driver or turtle carer. You can also learn more by attending one of the education programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Learn About the Honeybees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At Hunnabees, you can take a beekeeping or farm tour to learn all about honey production \u2014 from pollination to extraction. As well as regular equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions, you can book a wellness experience for a day or half day. These experiences are focused on building resilience through developing connections, establishing healthy boundaries, and improving communication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Chill with Some Ice Cream<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Head to Kawartha Dairy for some of the best ice cream around.
