Most people set the same trope of resolutions each year — and then give up after they become bored just a few weeks later. This year, make your new year’s resolutions enjoyable and align them with your student lifestyle. As well as being much more likely to succeed, you’ll have fun working toward them.
- Try New Foods
Too often, new year’s resolutions involve restricting what you’ll eat to lose weight or become healthier. As a college student, you should be focusing on trying new things rather than limiting yourself. Set a resolution to vary your diet by trying things you’ve never eaten before. This could mean ordering new dishes when you eat out or exploring your options when grocery shopping — especially in terms of fruits and vegetables. - Take Selfies in Interesting Places
Set a goal to travel more — and come back with the pictures to prove it by taking selfies in a range of interesting places. If you don’t have the means to travel far or often, set yourself the additional challenge of finding unique spots for a photo opportunity. - Do Something Out of the Ordinary
Instead of falling into a rut this year, take steps to mix up your routine. Once a week, find something you can do differently. This could be as simple as taking a different route to class to see what you discover along the way or going to an event on campus you’re not even sure is for you. - Commit to Small Acts of Kindness
New year’s resolutions tend to be about ourselves. In 2023, strive to make the world around you a better place through small acts of kindness. Donating a small amount to charity or complimenting a friend can have a difference — and it will make you feel good. - Learn a Skill You Neglected as a Child
You’ll be learning things every day at college, but there’s likely a skill or two you never mastered as a child that most people around you know how to do. Whether you want to learn to swim, touch type, or bake, working on this skill on a regular basis can be fulfilling as well as fun. - Make More Friends
There’s no better place than college to make friends. However, after a few semesters, it’s easy to fall into the trap of just hanging out with the same people. Put in the effort this year to continue meeting new people, such as by striking up a conversation with someone in your class or attending a wider variety of social events. - Set a Record
Aim to beat a personal best record this year — or go bigger still and break a world record. For instance, you could aim to achieve your highest grade yet, set an exercise streak, or search for unusual world records you think you have the skills to break.
The best new year’s resolution to make if you want to improve your experience at college is to find better student housing. Peterborough students can find a new home at Severn Court. You’ll have a private bedroom with your own door lock and thermostat in a fully-furnished apartment directly across from campus. Apply now.
