6 Happy Habits to Break You Out of a Slump

June 5, 2023 Posted by Gail Uncategorized

There will be times at college when everything is great and you feel like you’re living the best years of your life. Unfortunately, there will be other times when you lack motivation completely and wonder how you’ll find the energy to finish your homework or make it to class. This is particularly likely to happen when you neglect self-care. By adopting some happy habits, you can break out of this slump and start making most of your time at college again. Here are a few to try.

  1. Record the Best Moments of Your Day
Forcing yourself to find something to post on social media every day could be detrimental to your mental health. However, taking photos and videos just for yourself or even journaling can remind you to have fun every day. Plus, this practice will involve your creative side, as you’ll need to figure out how to record your memories.
  2. Make Vision Boards
A great way to reflect on your goals is to make a vision board. Since your goals may change as you progress through college, it’s useful to update your vision board on a regular basis. Hang a board above your desk to give you inspiration whenever you need it.
  3. Develop Close Friendships
Making friends comes naturally to many people, but it’s more challenging for others. No matter if you have a large group of friends or you tend to hang out with just a few people, it’s necessary to nurture your friendships to maintain them. Make time to spend with your closest friends and check in with them often to show you care.
  4. Take It Slow in the Morning
Some mornings, you may have no option but to rush through your routine, such as if you need a little extra sleep before an early class. Whenever possible, though, you should try to take your mornings slow. Instead of dreading mornings, you’ll start looking forward to your routine. Include activities such as stretches, breathing exercises, and preparing a breakfast you’ll enjoy — and do it all without touching your phone. Bear in mind you’ll need to set an earlier bedtime to ensure you can wake up early without lacking sleep.
  5. Listen to Music
If music is not already part of your daily routine, it should be. Play music when you’re doing chores, while studying (if you’re able to focus), and when you return home in the evenings — you may even like to dance around a bit to let off some steam.
  6. Push Yourself Out of Your Comfort Zone
Self-care doesn’t always mean being comfortable. In fact, it’s important to sometimes push yourself to do things you’re unsure about. This could mean signing up for an elective that is completely unlike the classes for your major, attending an event on campus on your own, or even joining your friends on an adventure.
Make more of your days great by moving into a better student apartment. For Fleming College housing, there’s Severn Court. It will be easier to focus on self-care when you have a private bedroom with a door lock and individual thermostat. Plus, you’ll be living just a short walk from campus, meaning it will be easy to arrive to class on time. Apply for an eight- or 12-month lease today.
